Little Ferns Childcare

Little Ferns Childcare is a small boutique centre licenced for 30 tamariki, 10 under twos and 20 overs twos. Our centre is like a home away from home. We have real grass, sleep children outside in the fresh air and provide real life resources such as pots and pans in the sandpit and growing vegetables.

Our philosophy is big on relationships! This is at the heart of what we do.

Our philosophy in action

Ako
At Little Ferns both kaiako and tamariki teach and learn off each other. Kaiako facilitate reciprocal teaching and learning roles. Ako relationships naturally occur between tamariki, as they teach and learn off each other.

Whanaungatanga
At Little Ferns building and maintaining relationships with tamariki and whānau is important to us. All our relationships are based on sharing experiences with tamariki and kaiako working together to help make connections and decisions.

Tuakana/Teina
tuakana/teina relationships are an integral part of Māori culture where an older or more experienced tuakana guides a younger teina. All tamariki tuakana/teina relationships are valued and are an important part of our philosophy. Our tuakana learn to look out for and care for our teina.

Ao taiāwhio
At Little Ferns we have a large natural outdoor environment where tamariki experience real grass, and share in the production of fruit and vegetables – from planting to eating! We spend all our time possible outside even in the rain, it’s not about “bad weather”, it’s about appropriate clothing.
